Note: It is strongly encouraged to take an advocate with you when you are reaching out to resources and services. While all of the resources listed here have been known to work with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, each person’s experience may be different. With an advocate by your side, you have someone there to support you and your needs while accessing the resources you need.

Evidence-Based Sexual Health Education Programs

Amplify Tulsa coordinates collective efforts within our community to expand access to sex education, promote healthy relationships, and engage the public in this conversation through education, collaboration, and advocacy.

  • Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is a group of young people committed to advancing adolescent sexual health and well-being in Tulsa. Members select, implement, and lead projects dedicated to sexual and reproductive health, healthy relationships, and wellness.

  • Tulsa Health and Education Coalition (THE) is a sexual health alliance supporting youth in Tulsa. THE Coalition’s diverse membership includes health organizations, nonprofits, faith communities, schools, and community advocates, and convenes monthly to ensure continuous communication between programs, participate in networking activities, and learn from experts in the field of adolescent sexual health promotion.

Honestly OKC works to improve sexual health outcomes for youth by partnering with community leaders, providing medically accurate resources, and advocating for youth so that they can make healthy and informed decisions. Honestly is a program of the Central Oklahoma Teen Pregnancy Prevention Collaboration, a county-wide network of services and nonprofits.

Oklahoma Prevention Leadership Committee builds multi-disciplinary connections and fosters collaboration among violence prevention specialists and allies in an effort to create a safer and more equitable Oklahoma.

  • Youth Advisory Subcommittee Council promotes the prevention of sexual violence through education and resource navigation for Oklahoma youth, so that they feel empowered to make healthy decisions about their actions, bodies, and relationships.

Sex Positive Families provides the education and resources that help families raise sexually healthy children.

Positive Prevention Plus curriculum materials are evidence-based instruction in Comprehensive Sexual Health with a focus on Education and Teen Pregnancy Prevention. All materials are aligned with National Health Education Standards (NHES), and in full compliance with California Education Code including California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA).

Healthy Teen Network promotes better outcomes for adolescents and young adults by advancing social change, cultivating innovation, and strengthening youth-supporting professionals and organizations with others working in sexual and reproductive health.

Elavatus works to empower, motivate, and educate self-advocates, professionals and parents, to gain confidence, comfort, knowledge and skills to teach and talk openly about sexuality which will enable people with developmental disabilities to lead sexually healthy lives.

Planned Parenthood delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of people worldwide.

State-wide Resources and Services

H.O.P.E. Testing provides health services for hepatitis C, HIV, and other STIs at their Tulsa clinic open to all, and through outreach across Oklahoma focused on the most at-risk, especially individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or underserved.

Oklahoma Department of Sexual Health protects and promotes the public’s health by intervening in the transmission of HIV, STIs, and Hepatitis C: through prevention and intervention to prevent the spread of disease, to connect those living with disease to the care they need, and surveillance and analysis to review data and develop plans to control the spread of disease and prevent future outbreaks.

Freedom Oklahoma Virtual Community Gatherings hosts virtual meetings set up for educators, caregivers, and students to come together and share in their experiences, ask questions, and find answers to whatever they may be facing.

National Services and Resources

Love is Respect offers comprehensive resources to engage, educate, and empower young people to prevent and end abusive relationships. Call, text, or chat online. Easy site escape: click the “X” in the top right corner or press the Escape key twice.

RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, and runs the National Sexual Assault hotline. Call or chat online.

SextEd is a free and confidential text helpline that can answer your questions about sex, dating, and health within 24 hours, with answers that are aware and informed of trans and queer experiences.

The Trevor Project is the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention nonprofit organization for LGBTQ young people, providing information & support to LGBTQ 
young people 24/7, all year round. Call, text, or chat online.

The LGBT National Youth Talkline (ages 25 and under) will connect you with a support volunteer that identifies within the LGBTQIA+ community, will provide peer support, and can connect you to local resources. It Gets Better works to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) youth around the globe.

GLSEN works to ensure that every member (students, educators, administrators, and caregivers) of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

GSA Network is a next-generation LGBTQ racial and gender justice organization that empowers and trains queer, trans, and allied youth leaders to advocate, organize, and mobilize an intersectional movement for safer schools and healthier communities.

PFLAG is an organization creating a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them through national, regional, and local efforts. Click here to find a local chapter.

Gender Spectrum creates a gender-inclusive world for all children and youth. To accomplish this, they help families, organizations, and institutions increase their understanding of gender and consider the implications that evolving views have for each of us. Note: Gender Spectrum has transitioned to a solely online presence as of September 2023.

Advocates for Youth provides health and advocacy resources for parents of LGBTQ youth and health providers working with that population. The site also provide lesson plans for addressing various facets of LGBTQ health, tools for working with LGBTQ youth, and pamphlets for patients about acknowledging and affirming their sexual and gender identity.

We R Native is a comprehensive health resource created for and by Native youth that aims to promote holistic health and positive growth in local communities and across the nation by providing extensive resources on topics like culture, life events, health and well-being, and leadership, in addition to an “Ask Your Relative” Q&A program.

S.L.A.M. (Sexuality Liberators and Movers) provides a virtual platform for BIPOC experts and leaders in the field to disrupt and reimagine comprehensive sex ed through the lens of intersectionality.

County Specific Community Resources in Oklahoma

Knowing where to turn in time of need or crisis is important. 2SLGBTQ+ people often struggle to find resources that serve us. These resources and services have indicated that they serve the community, have shown up for community, or taken a public stance in serving the community. Each person’s experience can be different.   • Variety Care Clinics provide care to all persons, regardless of income, residency status, employment, health insurance coverage, or ability to pay for services; explore our Variety Care resource directory to find a list of providers with special interest and training in caring for 2SLGBTQ+ patients, or visit their website to find information about their Teen Clinic Program

  • Guiding Right aims to improve access to healthcare, systems and services that improve the quality of life among Black Oklahomans and other marginalized communities across the state— specifically, working to reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS infections through HIV testing, prevention education, and case management; visit their website to learn about their CLEAR Program (for those 16+ living with/at risk for HIV/AIDS), or find details about their New Hope Wellness Center (OKC), Diversity Center (OKC), and Tulsa locations

  • Bright Eyes Family Services is an outpatient mental health facility helping young adults, and their families function at their highest capacities in home, work, social, and academic environments by providing counseling, behavioral health services, and case management to residents of OKC and the surrounding cities of Norman, Edmond, Mid-Del, and Yukon.

  • Community Health Connection is a comprehensive healthcare clinic with four locations around Tulsa that provide high-quality, accessible care regardless of a client’s ability to pay; find information about and hours for their Teen Clinics here

  • Youth Services Tulsa provides health education, sexual health awareness services, and offers an on-site adolescent health clinic operated by Community Health Connection

  • H.O.P.E. Testing provides health services for hepatitis C, HIV, and other STIs at their Tulsa clinic, works to increase accessibility to STI testing, and engages in outreach across Oklahoma focusing on the most at-risk, especially individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or underserved; see Teen Clinic hours and explore resources for youth here

  • Take Control Initiative provides free access to all birth control methods, implant and IUD removals, Lyft rides to partner clinics, and morning-after pill kits for eligible individuals; visit their website to find out about their Peer Health Educator Program, learn more about various types of birth control options, check your eligibility for their free services, and find a clinic on their partner list (Note: The main webpage offers information for Tulsa County, but services are also available in the OKC area in coordination with Variety Care clinics)
