DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Freedom Oklahoma, Oklahoma’s statewide LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, seeks a fundraising professional passionate about building the infrastructure of the organization, and through it, a better world.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage a portfolio of approximately 125 donors and prospective donors.
Qualify new prospects for assignment to portfolios, create a comprehensive strategy for each donor/prospect in the portfolio, and execute that strategy in a manner in which donors are respected, retained, and inspired to increase their support.
Directly solicit major and planned gifts.
Build and manage plans for small dollar, online, and monthly giving
Partner with program staff on donor engagement opportunities.
Provide support to program staff in preparation for donor interactions, including thoughtful, concise briefing materials in advance of meetings with donors and prospects.
Incorporate information about Freedom Oklahoma’s accomplishments and ongoing projects into written materials and talking points directed at individual donors/prospects.
Create highly personalized proposals that are in line with donor interests and programmatic priorities including major donor update emails and correspondence, Create reports that detail progress made due to a particular gift to engage donors regarding their impact on Freedom Oklahoma and the community, etc.
Develop and participate in strategic donor engagement opportunities, such as small events for select donors/prospects in the portfolio, newsletter features, and donor recognition opportunities.
Track and document key relationship activity and progress.
Maintain working knowledge of state and national programmatic priorities and issues as they occur.
Seek grant funding opportunities, and maintain primary responsibility for drafting grant proposals and reports.
Collaborate with special events committee comprised of board members and volunteers to plan one large formal event and 2-4 small events annually.
IDEAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent skills in building relationships.
Comfort in asking individuals to commit their money, time, and/or energy to a cause.
Fundraising background, with either political campaigns or nonprofits, with preference given to candidates with experience soliciting major gifts.
A commitment to the mission of Freedom Oklahoma, with preference given to candidates with a personal stake in the mission.Some experience or knowledge of basic accounting.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to simplify complex themes.
Knack for storytelling.
Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Ability to develop long-term plans, set objectives, and track progress towards achieving objectives.
Proficiency with office technology and donor or sales databases.
Availability for travel throughout Oklahoma, as safely allowed post-COVID.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary is commensurate with experience and within the parameters of $40,000-47,000 annually. Excellent benefits include a generous Paid Time Off policy, 100% coverage for medical and dental insurance, and generous paid holidays.
